We can’t get enough of Laura Numeroff’s books, so this week for our literacy snack, we are reading, If You Give A Moose a Muffin.
“If a big hungry moose comes to visit, you might give him a muffin to make him feel at home. If you give him a muffin, he’ll want some jam to go with it. When he’s eaten all your muffins, he’ll want to go to the store to get some more muffin mix.” Just like in the original book, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, the boy in the story entertains a moose through a bunch of comic adventures that will have your students giggling the whole time,

Snack Idea
For our snack this week, we will, of course, be having muffins! I just made muffins from 2 boxes of muffin mix that I had picked up at the store, or if you’re in a time pinch or want to ask to have them donated by a parent, store-bought mini muffins would be a great idea. You could even bring in a jar of jam for the students to put some on their muffins like the moose does in the story.

While your students are enjoying their muffin snack, I made a word search for them to work on. It has 9 words that appear in the story. Depending on your student’s abilities, you can have them do this individually or as a whole group using the smartboard to find the words together.
