Make counting practice a little more playful with these Cat and Buttons Counting Mats! These hands-on number mats give students a chance to practice numbers 1–20, one-to-one counting, number recognition, and number writing while they gather the correct number of buttons for the cat.

Students count out the buttons, place them on the mat, and then practice writing the number. The mats are easy to prep and work especially well for math centers, small groups, morning work, independent practice, and early math activities.

Students can use buttons, mini erasers, play dough, or small puff balls from the craft section. (Please supervise students while using small manipulatives.)

Laminate the mats and pair them with a dry-erase marker for a reusable activity students can enjoy again and again.

I’ve also included printable button pieces in both color and black and white if you’d rather use the included pieces instead of manipulatives.
