These counting mats are a fun way to bring the outside in. The students will help the squirrel gather the correct number of acorns for winter. They can then practice writing the number. Laminate the pages so they can be reused over and over with a dry erase marker.

We use real acorns as the counters for the squirrel. I’ve seen small acorns in the fall section of Hobby Lobby that would be fantastic or you could even use mini erasers. I have also included a page of printable acorns both in color and black and white.
