Ladybug fun in the classroom
To kick us off, we have a great ladybug read-aloud, The Grouchy Ladybug. This is a story of a bad-tempered bug who won’t say “please” or “thank you,” won’t share, and thinks she is bigger and better than anyone else. This book will help your little learners learn that maybe being grouchy isn’t always the best option. You can get the details of the snack idea and grab the free printable to go with the book here.
Next, we work together on creating our ladybug can, have are chart.
We learn about the ladybug life cycle and vocabulary. These all can be found in my Ladybug Activities No Prep Pack.
We make fun hats to review the life cycle.
We get to practice our math with our favorite ladybug mini erasers.
And my most favorite part is on Friday when we get to release ladybugs and play insect bingo!
Here’s the insect bingo if you want to check it out.
And for the ladybugs, I pick them up on Monday from our local ACE Hardware store so they can be in our classroom and we can observe them throughout the week.

If you can’t find these local in our area, this kit from insect lore is a great option. You get to watch them change from larve to pupa and then ladybug.
We release the ladybugs on Friday and it is definitely one of the most memorable days of the year for the kiddos. I hold the container and pass out ladybugs to whoever wants to hold them.
Such a fun experience for the kiddos!
