We’re keeping with our apple theme again this week and our Literacy Snack Apple Pie Read-Aloud. We’re reading one of my favorite apple books, Amelia Bedelia’s First Apple Pie by Herman Parish.
Amelia is visiting her grandparents and making a pie with Grandma. She’s still up to her typical antics, mistaking Granny Smith for a person and thinking that a farmer’s market is a place to buy farmers. The illustrations are so bright and colorful.
Since Amelia is making her first apple pie in the book, we’re going to be making apple pie too! Well, as close as you can get without having access to an oven that is.

ingredients
each student will need
1 tablespoon graham cracker crumbs
a scoop of canned apple pie filling
whipped cream
sprinkle of cinnamon
small bowl or cup and spoon
Assemble
The students will scoop 1 tablespoon of graham cracker crumbs into the bottom of their bowl/cup. I found the crumbs at Walmart. You can of course just use regular graham crackers, put them into a ziplock bag and have the kids use a rolling pin to crush them. We’ve done that in the past, but for the sake of time, I chose the pre-crushed box this time.
Next, each student will need a scoop of apple pie filling with a nice squirt of whipped cream and they can give a careful shake of cinnamon on top. So simple, but they taste so yummy! The kids just love them!
While we’re assembling the apple pies, we talk about how the ones we made are different from the ones that Amelia Bedelia made in the book.
Free Printable
While they are enjoying their delicious apple pie, they can work on the free printable I’ve created to go along with the book. They will use sequencing to number the boxes of how to make an apple pie.

I hope your class enjoys making apple pie as much as mine does!
Thanks for stopping by!
