Literacy Snack Idea Donuts + Free Printable
Last week I shared a post about free printable donut ten frames. I wanted to tie it in with our literacy snack, so this week we’re reading, If You Give A Dog A Donut, by Laura Numeroff.
Giving a dog a donut results in him asking for a glass of apple juice. But when he asks for more juice and there is none, he’ll have to make his own. An apple reminds him of a baseball, which leads to a baseball game, and so begins a domino effect of associations—until the whole story comes full circle.
For this week’s snack to go with the book, I’m sharing two ideas. You can choose to do one or both it’s up to you! We’ll be making our own donut so it’s a hands on activity and also having two mini donuts to go along with.
Ingredients
Each student will need
1/2 of a bagel
tablespoon or so of cream cheese
rainbow sprinkles
Assemble
The “donuts” are super simple to make. Have the students spread the cream cheese on the bagel, (easier said than done!) and then let them add some rainbow sprinkles on top. I love that it looks just like the donut in the book that the dog has. Not wanting the kiddos to be disappointed it’s not a “real” donut though, I also did pass out two mini donuts to them as well. You could make it even more fun by adding some apple juice to drink!
While the students are enjoying their snack, I made a free printable for them to work on. They will get to color and decorate their favorite kind of donut You can download the free printable below.
I hope your students enjoy their special snack! See you next time!
