Literacy Snack Idea Leprechaun + Free Printable
It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day and there is a leprechaun on the loose in our classroom!
We’re excited to be doing some fun activities for St. Patrick’s Day this week. We have a sneaky leprechaun on the loose right now.
He’s sure a sneaky guy! So of course this week for our Literacy Snack Idea Leprechaun + Free Printable, we are reading, Leprechaun On The Loose, by Marcia Thornton Jones.
In the book, A leprechaun is loose and is causing all sorts of mischief in the classroom. The leprechaun licks the green icing from the cupcakes, swims in the classroom fish tank, and lets the class hampster out of its cage, etc. There is only one classmate that can see and hear the leprechaun and is determined to catch him.
THIS ACTIVITY WORKS WELL WITH
There are a ton of fun ideas you add to do with this book but for our snack today, we’ll be making a leprechaun trap!
Ingredients
Each student will need
1 full-size graham cracker
a handful of Lucky Charms cereal (I happened to find special St. Patrick’s day kind at Target)
1 pretzel stick
1 large marshmallow
Assemble
This week with our snack, we’re mixing in a bit of STEM fun. Ultimately, the kids can create their very own trap for the leprechaun using the ingredients they’ve been given. To make the one that I share, the students will simply place the pretzel stick into the marshmallow and lean the graham cracker again the pretzel stick. Place your lucky charms under the “trap” to attract the leprechaun.
Free Printable
After the students have created their snack trap, I created a free printable for them to work on. They’ll be able to draw a trap of their own and write about it.
As a bonus, there is a leprechaun trap on the back of the Lucky Charms cereal box that we’re going to put together after our snack is finished!
