This week’s Literacy Snack idea is a silly one! We’re reading Don’t Be Silly, Mrs Millie! I love this book. It has a bunch of fun wordplay and has the kids giggling the whole time.
“Mrs. Millie has lots of fun teasing her kindergartners. She tells them to hang up their goats, eat gorilla cheese sandwiches, and remember to wear their bats and kittens when they go outside for recess.”
In the book, Mrs. Millie asks the kids, “Who’s hungry?” And she tells them we have parrot sticks and quackers. And the kids reply, ‘You mean carrot sticks and crackers!” so of course that’s what we’re having for our snack today!
You can’t get a much easier snack than this. You can pass out the carrot sticks and crackers and while the kids eat, they can work on the free printable I’ve created.
In the book, Mrs. Millie always says a silly incorrect phrase, and then the students correct her with what she actually means. In the free printable, I’ve referenced 4 of those wordplays that are used in the book. The students will color the two pictures that go together correctly.

Hopefully your kids love this book as much as mine do!
Thanks for stopping by!
