One of my most favorite books ever is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It’s always been a favorite of mine but even more so once I had my son years ago and it quickly became a favorite of his as well. He had the book memorized and would read it back to me several times each night. I can still hear that cute little baby voice saying sausage in a silly way.
I still love reading this book today as it brings back so many memories and is a favorite of so many others. I wanted to make a fun activity to go along with the book, so I’m sharing with you a Free Printable Caterpillar Hat for the kids to color and wear after reading the story.
Have you seen the animated video of the story? It’s a short film but it has such a calming tone to it and is a great retelling of the story.
Free Printable Caterpillar Hat
This hat is a fun way to have your students retell the story. On the hat, it shows all of the things that the caterpillar ate through.
Simply download and print out the hat. Have your students color and cut out the hat. Help them staple it together and they can wear them proudly!
If you’re looking for more activities to go along with The Very Hungry Caterpillar you might like our caterpillar literacy snack that we did to go along with the book.

My children were so excited about the story I read last week on the hungry caterpiller. Making this hat tomorrow will certainly work as a good follow up to the story. Thank you so much. Such a coincidence. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to post some pics of my class . .
I love when that happens! We would love to see pictures!
