This weeks’ read-aloud,  we’re reading, Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown. It’s a simple, rhythmic book about the cycle of a day on a farm, where a family of animals peacefully plays and sleeps. It pairs as a perfect read as an addition to your farm animal unit or a field trip to a farm.

Assemble

To make the cow, each student will need to use the cookie cutter to make a circle. Save the bread scraps. Use a small amount of the strawberry cream cheese, spread it along the bottom portion of the cut out bread as the cows nose. Place the 2 chocolate chips in the nose as his nostrils. Place the mini Oreos on the cow and add the eyeballs on top of those. Use the Hersey kisses as his horns. Using some of the bread scraps, tear off 2 corners and add them as his ears.Literacy Snack Idea Farm Cow Snack

While the kids are eating their snack, I made a free printable for them to work on. They will draw their favorite animals that are found on the farm.

Have you seen our Farm Scavenger Hunt? This would be fun to do along  side reading the book or also to take along on your next field trip to the farm.

You can find all of our other scavneger hunts here.
