We’ve been learning about turkey’s and thought this book would tie in fun for Thanksgiving. For this weeks Literacy Snack, we’re reading Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano.
Turkey is in trouble. Bad trouble. The kind of trouble where it’s almost Thanksgiving . . . and you’re the main
course. But Turkey has an idea–what if he doesn’t look like a turkey? What if he looks like another animal instead?
After many hilarious attempts, Turkey comes up with the perfect disguise to make this Thanksgiving the best ever!
In the end of the book, the turkey’s final costume wasn’t bad, he was a pizza delivery guy and the family had pizza for Thanksgiving dinner. For our snack this week we’re making pizza!
THIS ACTIVITY WORKS WELL WITH
Ingredients
Each student will need
1/2 of an english muffin
1 tbsp of pizza sauce
small handful of shredded mozzarella cheese
Assemble
These pizzas are one of my own kids favorite’s so I thought they’d be perfect for the students to make. Very simple. Just have the students spread the pizza sauce on the english muffin and add on the cheese. You can add additional toppings if you’d like. We just eat them this way, no oven needed. It’s almost like the pizza’s that kids make in those Lunchables. A silly snack to have pizza instead of Thanksgiving dinner.
While the students are enjoying their snack, I made a printable they can work on. They will get to disguise the turkey in the costume they think would be best for him.

Hope you students enjoy this fun twist on Thanksgiving dinner!
